Does Crazy for You kind of qualify? Looking at Wikipedia, it seems Crazy for You was developed originally as a re-written version of Girl Crazy. I don't know either show that well, but my impression is that the plot and characters are completely different. Many non-Girl Crazy songs were added and some of Girl Crazy's songs were deleted, so the score is not the same. But maybe Pirates will include songs from other Gilbert & Sullivan shows...
The reverse happened when the French musical The Ten Commandments (Les Dix Commandements) was made into an American version. The score was completely tossed and a completely new score by different composers was written. That seemed completely bizarre to me. |
