Okay.

I don’t what’s going on over there. But here are my thoughts. There isn’t a lot of overlapping in this show. I don’t have the Playbill in front of me but I assume some of the Hollywood Blondes understudy June, Louise, and the Strippers. Even if people are sick, I think you can adjust the staging to do the show with less Blondes. Over to the boys, the Farm Boys obviously understudy Tulsa. If too many people are out, adjust the staging to 2 Farm Boys! Finally, the Rose understudy should be prepared to go on for the first preview. This is not a new show. She was probably off book for her audition and if not, she should know the material by now. While at rehearsal, you write down the blocking and practice at home. Will you be perfect without a put in? Probably not but if you do your job, the show goes on. I say this as someone who has understudied on and off Broadway and on one instance, had to take over a role I wasn’t understudying with 2 days notice. Broadway understudies go on in previews all the time. Tony Vincent took over the role of Judas in the 2000 revival of JCS during previews and he wasn’t even the Judas understudy! He was Simon and the Jesus understudy.

Now maybe this is just because Audra is sick and they don’t want to do the show without her. That makes sense. Her name is in the title of this production. I believe they shut down The Boy from Oz when Hugh Jackman went on vacation.

Like I said, I have no knowledge of what is actually going on but that’s what I have to offer to the discussion from my experience.
