There is not a great deal of information being disclosed, obviously for privacy reasons, but the playbill coverage info at the end of the cast list does, as you say, tell the story (and answer some questions as to which incorrect info has been suggested here by some). It has been said by someone that this spell of sick folks seems to be unique to Gypsy. I didn't think it would be necessary at this point to explain what a contagion is, or how it spreads, or that the theatre unavoidably puts almost everyone in close human contact.

Also, the significance in this context of the currently spreading RSV is that it generally has a longer period during which an infected person is contagious (compared to Covid, for instance) and in some cases significantly longer. This could account for the length of this shutdown, and remember that very few are vaccinated for RSV.
