I'm rather surprised that Shani Wallis, who was excellent in "Oliver!", didn't have a big follow-up offer after the success of that film. Of course, while "Oliver!" was sweeping the Oscars, other musical flops like "Star!", "Doctor Doolittle" and "Darling Lili" were severely curtailing the production of Hollywood musicals, even though a few others made money. Maybe studio heads thought if even Julie Andrews wasn't minting money in musicals any longer, another British woman wouldn't either. Wallis apparently happily married her agent and lived in LA; maybe she wasn't as ambitious to pursue a film career afterwards? I do recall her in a tv commercial for a run of "Oliver!" some years later at Westbury Music Fair or such place, and she did come back to do a stage production of "Follies" in LA many years afterwards. But I thought her performance in "Oliver!" warranted a film follow-up in some way, which never really came. She'll always be remembered for that great film.
