| So so sad. One of the true greats. Growing up in the 60's/70's, she was one of those performers I knew as a TV star ("Alice") before I knew anything about her Broadway career. (Same thing for her Alice co-star Beth Howland, who played fellow waitress Vera, who I would soon discover as "crazy Amy" of "Getting Married Today" fame in Company.) But then hearing Lavin on the cast recording of Superman, and her iconic recording of "The Boy From..." from The Mad Show was a revelation to me. As the world mourns President Carter, some of us will also be remembering the great Linda Lavin. May they both rest in peace. |
