I think you've stated yor point well. But underlying this seems to be an assumption that others and you have disavowed...which is that voters vote for other reasons (ie the show will tour better) rather than for what they think is the best show (which is of course still subjective). So it seems the conclusion is that, yes, voters (or road voters specifically) do get together in a room and vote in a "blok" for the show they think needs the Tony in order to tour, run longer etc. Maybe I am too naive, or too blinded by how much better I think Ave Q is than Wicked, but I like to think the lunch and song and campaign encouraged people to vote for the show they thought was better, not caused the voters to suddenly vote for Ave Q based on a political reason, which I think we all want to believe is not how it works.
AND at the same time I do agree it was not cool to make everyone think the show was touring if they already knew Vegas was a done deal and they'd be skipping the road for awhile. |
