Whether one judges ''Avenue Q'' or ''Wicked'' the ''better show'' is a subjective matter of taste. That's not the issue for me.
I was disappointed that ''Avenue Q,'' which I love, misled the tour and road producers into thinking that voting for their little underdog show would mean bringing ''Avenue Q'' to their communities, when, in fact, ''Avenue Q'' had a secret deal with Wynn Las Vegas. If the tour and road producers had known that ''Avenue Q'' was doing an exclusive sitdown run in Las Vegas BEFORE playing regionally, do you think those producers would've voted for ''Avenue Q'' to win?
I don't think so. If I were one of those road producers, I would've felt used and betrayed. (And, yes, I was at the ''Avenue Q'' Tony party at John's Pizzeria.) |
