The opening establishing scenes with Jim and Tammy were completely new for Broadway. Actually a lot of the opening was changed for Broadway. In London, when we go back to the start of the story, Tammy was already with Jim and already doing the puppet show, and in the song 'Light of the World' when the different preachers were introducing themselves, Jim and Tammy announced themselves, and the puppets together. Also, there wasn't a big reveal of the main set when the curtains came down, as it was all done on the 1 set

In the Broadway production, Jim and Tammy hadn't even met at that point, and it's only after 'Light of the World' that they said hello to each other for the first time. There is then lots of ne dialogue setting up their relationship and the song 'If Only Love' (with a completely new ending) was them taking their show around the country, which was projected onto the screens with the adult sized puppets appearing at the end (which i kinda loved!)

In London, the song 'If Only Love' was about their ambitions and being famous in America, which then encourages them to go and see Ted Turner. And yes, in London, the Ted Turner meeting was also done off stage.

Personally I felt it didn't need all the Jim and Tammy backstory, about how they found god and how they found each other. Its interesting because you might think it would have been done the other way around - London should have got all the details because they are not so well known, and Broadway gets the shorter version because there is more familiarity with the Bakkers. There were lots of other small changes in the opening, such as who said what, which changed the perspective of things, which again, i felt muddled the story.
