If anything, a TV show, especially a hit one, is a lot more reliable than any stage career. Just think how long theater actors like Chandra Wilson and S Epatha Merkerson have worked regularly on a TV show. Stars, especially (with the exception of Sutton Foster) can't just go from Broadway show to Broadway show. And even when they do, the Broadway show is likely to close. With TV, if you're in a national network TV show, you can earn substantial money in residuals for decades. There is no comparable passive income after a Broadway show closes. Sure, the original Hamilton cast gets a little but it's not the same. Also, 8 shows a week is a lot more demanding than "regular jobs." Your life has to revolve about being ready for the shows. And in a "regular job," you don't have a high paying audience watching your every move. The pressure is intense. You can't have a life outside the show. As for Cole, he may have other acting jobs OR producing/writing jobs. He is a producer for "Hacks" and I think that is going on for at least another season. Furthemore, he will still be making money for "Oh Mary" since he wrote it. |
