A surprisingly conservative take on the musical from George Wolfe. It's also a rather melancholy take but it builds to a quietly touching conclusion. I enjoyed it. Beautiful sound from the pit with lush orchestrations. Beautifully sung by Audra McDonald until the penultimate number where she eschews beauty to go in for the kill. |
