Speaking of Akers, I caught her a couple months ago, singing Janis Ian's ''Some People's Lives'' at the beautiful memorial for cabaret critic John Hoglund. At 79 (!), she still looks and sounds so marvelous. And this glamorous star just performed a couple nights ago at Birdland. (See photos below.) It's crazy that Akers, a Theatre World winner, wasn't cast in more Broadway musicals, other than ''Nine'' and ''Grand Hotel.'' She's a treasure! |
