I saw the show three times on Broadway. First with Kahn (during previews) who was both hilarious and in great voice. She gave a real star performance. I saw the show a second time, this time with Judy Kaye. She was fine, but lacked Kahn's "magic". I did see Kaye in SOUVENIR in LA in 2006, and she was wonderful. I also enjoyed her in NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT, albeit in a much smaller role. I did see the Roundabout revival and enjoyed it, although it obviously wasn't as luxe as the original. Kristen Chenoweth was fine, as was Peter Gallagher, although he lacked John Cullum's lung power. I also saw an LA production in the late 90s at the Colony Theater. It was a 99 seater than, but has since grown into a 268 seater in Burbank. That production was small, but it had a delightful, larger-than=life performance by Lego Louis as Oscar Jaffee. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ysi9VmWAttqCyMNrIfwL_0qSGuZkTUY6/view?pli=1 |
