We know Audra is love and respected by Broadway aficianodoes. But can she 'open' a show. AUDRAGYPSY as they call it. Early sales say 'no'. And so does history. We won't count RAGTIME, as we dont know her then like we know her now. MARIE CHRISTINE ran 11 weeks at Lincoln Center, doing well for 4 weeks, ok or less for 7 weeks. 110 IN TEH SHADE did 16 Weeks for the Roundabout, usually in the 80=87% range of sales. PORGY AND BESS - she was highly acclaimed in this production - but for the majority of its 41 weeks on Broadway it sales ranged between 50-65% of potential. LADY DAY was a great success both artistically & financially. SHUFFLE ALONG was a big hit for 19 weeks until Scott Rudin closed it. FRANKIE AND JOHNNY and OHIO STATE MURDERS both had dismal sales. We want Audra to sing. So the jury is out |
