You’re proving Chonolume’s point, aren’t you? If the notes were changed to fit his voice in Merrily and How to Succeed, they could also be changed for City of Angels. Whether that would be good is obviously debatable.
For whatever it’s worth, I was among those who thought he seemed utterly amateurish in How to Succeed. I didn’t think he even seemed to understand what’s so great about the part. He had nowhere near the charm and ability Mathew Broderick showed when he did the role. (When people complain that Broderick coasts in his roles onstage these days, it wasn’t always that way. He could be brilliant) |
