I was lucky to see Dennehy on stage several times and to interview him occasionally because I was a reporter in Connecticut where he lived. His exterior might have been gruff but he was a warm and witty man. Dennehy was generous with me and other journalists because his dad was a reporter. He worked at Long Wharf in New Haven many times where he was the best Walter Burns I’ve ever seen in ‘The Front Page.’ I was privileged to also see his work there in ‘Hughie,’ ‘Krapp’s Last Tape’ and ‘Endgame’ - great performances in each of them.
He considered his best film work to be in Peter Greenaway’s ‘The Belly of an Architect.’
Thanks for the info on ‘Driveways’ which I’ve never seen.
He was a great actor and a wonderful interview subject.
