| Hutton could be toned down to excellent effect in some films, but she needed a director to do so. She's considerably toned down for "Miracle of Morgan's Creek" in some of the scenes where it's called for and she could do a lovely ballad like "I Wish I Didn't Love You So" in "Perils of Pauline". But Hutton seemed to operate by giving a whole lot of energy, and it was up to a director to bring it down. Some of her "Annie" is just fine, but yeah, it's geared more towards the stage. |
