Big time gambler Dave the Dude in Lady for a Day can easily be seen as an early incarnation of Sky Masterson. For example, Dave's associates in the movie are referred to as "Dave's guys". Likewise, Missouri Martin, who has a lot in common with Miss Adelaide, runs a nightclub. Her female employees are called "Missouri's dolls".
There is a character named Nicely Nicely Johnson in The Big Street. Also, Sam Levene plays a gambler named Horsethief, who various sources have said was a precursor to his stage performance as Nathan Detroit.
Actually it sounds more like something that Ken Ludwig would have written. :-) |
