That's tricky. I can acknowledge it as a different play... but also, I cannot imagine giving someone a Tony for writing a new play if they themselves call it "a version" of another (extremely famous) play.
I never saw or read it so I don't know how different it is or how much of the plot, characters, structure, themes, and actual dialogue is Marber's own original writing/creative work.
Though that certainly doesn't mean that whatever After Miss Julie is qualifies as a revival of Miss Julie.
Tricky.
But the Tonys didn't nominate it for anything... so... that makes it easier. ha
