It's really quite amazing that 2 of Liza's Broadway credits are in the incredibly challenging lead roles of Roxie in Chicago and Victoria/Victor in Victor/Victoria... and she did both as a replacement, and for only a month. She learned those entire shows to just do a few weeks, and she was already an Oscar winning movie star, a Tony winner, and was nonetheless willing to replace. (I know replacing for a buzzy 1 month only engagement isn't quite the same as just replacing when the original star leaves, but it's still going into a role created by/designed for another star). The talent, but also the energy, but also the lack of prohibitive ego. It's a wonder she didn't do a month in Sweeney Todd for Lansbury (or Cariou)! Or, more possibly, go into A Chorus Line as Cassie, or Best Little Whorehouse as Mona... or Song & Dance, or Falsettos as Trina! Or even better... Kiss of the Spider Woman! I would have killed to see her do Chicago and/or V/V! (But especially Chicago) |
