You bring up an interesting point about R&H abandoning the need for the more operetta style choral ending to an act. Even though Oklahoma! ends with the ballet, the more "symphonic sound" of the ballet creates a similar musical flourish like a choral reprise. King and I ends with the choral prayer to Buddha, the only full choral singing in the show except for the women in Western People Funny and the Praise to Buddha in Small House of Uncle Thomas. I wonder if R&H felt that the story needed balance with the more optimistic June reprise to emphasize the contrast of the Billy-Julie coupling and Carrie-Mr. Snow coupling?
