| The singing is great, but the tone of the dialog is dreadful. She plays it so young and almost emotionless. I am biased because I do love Close interpretation of the material. And I watched the original movie on Friday (it’s on paramount plus). Swanson and Close play the part as 50 aging star. Scheringer’s young kitten interpretation just doesn’t work for me. It’s just not creepy with a young Joe. But times have changed and a middle aged woman dating a young man isn’t taboo like it was in the 50s. I would have liked this revival to have done a full tweak to make it contemporary. Hollywood still dismisses aging actresses and scheringer’s young look is more common with actresses today than in the 50s. |
