Ah - I also have that handwritten revision copy - and you're right. But I wouldn't necessarily at this point say that either spelling of the word is official, then, because we have enough sources that point to both. I would still point to the "Mme" in the published score to perhaps tip the scales. But I think we're at a draw, because I think it's very possible to make a case for both spellings, but we can't necessarily confirm which one was intended. (I also very much doubt that even with the handwritten revisions by Laurents, that he would have fussed about the absence or inclusion of the e - and I'm sure he'd just laugh at both of us lol. So be it.) What still irks me, and all music directors who ever do this show - is why the score has not been officially updated to include the more iconic version of the strip sequence, with the dialogue, etc. The music exists, but not at all "offically" - and that's really stupid. (The score has the quick version of the tour and the Christmas sequence.) This was fun, though. :-) |
