Before This New Year will begin performances next year at The Duke on 42nd Street at NEW 42 Studios (229 W 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036) in March 2025. High-school track star Alison Bennett had met every expectation — until it all fell apart. After her first semester of college, Alison returns home for the holidays and reconnects with her former teammate Haley. As old feelings resurface, they must confront the choices that ended their running careers and reshaped their lives. Sharp, funny, and poignant, Before This New Year is a powerful exploration of love, loss, identity, and coming-of-age in today's relentlessly high-pressured world. Her work has been presented with New York Stage and Film, The New Group, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Guild Hall, Out of the Box Theatrics, Tacoma Film Festival, HollyShorts, and more. Her short film "To Be Honest" played at thirteen festivals across the country and scored four Best of Fest wins. It can currently be streamed on Omeleto ("World's Best Shorts"). Liana has been fortunate to develop her work with talent such as Natalia Dyer, AnnaSophia Robb, Julia Lester, Gaten Matarazzo, and more. She was the youngest finalist in history to place for the Al Blanchard Award (short story) at the New England Crime Bake. Liana studied English at the University of Chicago and has a BFA in Acting from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. She is represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME). Knud Adams (Director) is an Obie-winning director of artful new plays, based in NYC. He premiered the last two Pulitzer Prize winners, English and Primary Trust, and he's currently directing English on Broadway at the Todd Haimes Theatre. Additional new works: The Book of Mountain and Seas, I'm Revolting, Bodies They Ritual, The Headlands, Paris, The Workshop, Asshole, and Tom & Eliza. His productions have been celebrated on "Best of the Year" lists by The New York Times, New York Magazine, The New Yorker, and The Washington Post. His past and frequent collaborators include Eliza Bent, Eboni Booth, Christopher Chen, Will Eno, Angela Hanks, Justin Kuritzkes, Yilong Liu, Mona Pirnot, Jenny Schwartz, Celine Song, Sanaz Toossi, and Ken Urban. Jonathan Demar (Producer) is a Tony Award-winning producer. Through his production company, Dynamic Elevations LLC, Jonathan champions projects that elevate the art form and spark meaningful conversation. His Broadway co-producing credits include Swept Away, Hadestown (Tony), Stereophonic (Tony), Merrily We Roll Along (Tony), Appropriate (Tony), An Enemy of the People, Gutenberg! The Musical!, The Cottage, Funny Girl, POTUS, Be More Chill (Off-Broadway & London), Love Letters, and The Velocity of Autumn. Off-Broadway credits include Clowns Like Me (DR2 Theater), Fairycakes (Greenwich House Theater), This Beautiful Future (Cherry Lane Theater), The Saintliness of Margery Kempe (The Duke on 42nd Street), and Church & State (New World Stages).
