I have not yet gotten all the way through the Giant album. I wish I'd been able to see it. I love a lot of what I've heard but the story and musical style didn't excite me as much as so many of his other shows, so it kind of got lost in the shuffle given how long the album is, as a first experience of the show. I also saw Rain, which had cool stuff but I never loved it but didn't have a life outside it's San Diego premiere as far as I know, and Los Otros which I didn't like much, and Gardens of Anuncia which I loved and was thrilled to see brought to LCT... not everyone did, but it's certainly a less difficult or combative experience for audiences than some of his other divisive shows. I wish I could have seen Giant, First Lady Suite and First Daughter Suite, Little Fish, and especially The Highest Yellow which never even got a recording. And I never saw Lady of the Mist, but from the album I wouldn't say it's one of my favorites of his work, though I'd love to see it. |
