I'm not denying his talent, his artistry or his industriousness in turning out many scores. I happen to like some dissonance in music; operas like "Wozzeck" can be quite powerful in a good performance. But in some of LaChiusa's works I noticed where at times a good melody line was happening where he quite a few times chose to "go another way" and sound off-kilter to my ears. It is his prerogative in terms of his artistry to put down what he wants. It's my prerogative as a paying customer to not like it and to point out what I didn't (and did) like about it. Same as yours to challenge my taste, and I yours. | |
