I am also not a shill and I cannot think of a show ever to take my breath away in such unexpected ways. It’s so unique in so many ways I can barely find the words. The simplicity is deceptive, as it takes great artistry at all levels to weave this kind of spell. Everyone I know who has seen it has agreed 100%. A reminder it holds the very rare distinction of being one of the only shows in years that garnered unanimous raves from all critics.
Darren Criss is giving a performance, for me, that is even more profound than Ben Platt gave in Dear Evan Hansen. Michael Arden is an absolute genius. This will be one for the ages. But sometimes it’s hard to recognize it when it’s actually happening in the moment.
