You can be pretty sure that Julie Andrews was considered at that time for any big show or movie musical that had a star part, especially if the part called for an English or British woman. I'm surprised she didn't do Nancy in the film "Oliver!" (maybe too unsavory for her manager, too?) though think Shani Wallis was excellent in the role. Strange, but her manager probably talked her out of doing "Truly Scrumptious" in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" for being another nanny/guardian for children after "Mary Poppins" and "Sound of Music", too. |
