| Is there any particular reason it took so long to get this to the screen? Marc Platt says he started thinking about making a movie based on the novel almost 25 years ago, but then Stephen Schwartz said let’s make a musical first (or let’s start with a musical, or something to that effect). So it seems like a movie based on the musical was just waiting in the wings, but why 20 years? I haven’t followed the show very closely, so my apologies if I missed some common knowledge backstory. |
