I'm one of the few who hadn't seen the stage musical--but this post isn't about my opinion of the film--but the audience's. I have rarely ever seen a movie where the audience was so captivated, so swept away and delighted by a movie. Every joke hit. Every funny piece of business that Grande pitched, landed. No audience member sang. But there were also no cell phones, no talking...there were maybe only 2 or 3 people who left (and returned) to use the restroom. The audience was 100% with the film. They applauded after almost every musical number. I heard tears in several parts of the movie. At the end of the film, there were sobs all around me. And when the movie was over, the audience cheered like this was a sporting event. People didn't rush out afterwards. Many stayed in their seats, turned to their friends and talked about how much they loved the movie. I heard a few people say that this was already their second or third time seeing the film. The, people hung out in the lobby and I heard lots of discussion (Not really an Arial Grande fan but now I am....the movie was beyond what I was expecting, I'm going to watch the Wizard of Oz tonight...etc). Overall, the experience was so positive--it made me remember why I fell in love with going to the movies so many years ago. | |
