The reference to Rocky Horror isn't quite right, is it? I haven't seen it in a movie theatre for a long time, but I don't recall a lot of "singing along" except for the Time Warp (and bits of Dammit Janet and Hot Patootie, perhaps) - everything else is generally "in response to" instead of "along with." Unless that's changed over time. I know that maybe that wasn't the point of bringing the film up - the "communal experience" was the point - but still, it should be noted that most of what happens at Rocky Horror isn't literally singing along.

It does seem silly to me, especially if you're seeing a film for the first time, that you'd want to sing along instead of listening to what the performers in the movie are doing with the songs. Seems to me a sing along is something that you'd do later, when the film has been around for a bit, and you know the stylings that you'd be singing along to.

But maybe that's too sensible? :-)
