Now that Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman are in the news with their hit movie musical, it's worth revisiting the 10th Broadway anniversary panel they did about how they wrote ''Wicked.'' At one point, Schwartz recalls that he was giving up on writing for Broadway, especially since he felt he was getting treated much better writing musicals in Hollywood. Then, the book was brought to his attention, and he vigorously pursued the rights to turn it into a stage musical. At another point, Demi Moore's people were going to turn ''Wicked'' into a non-musical movie. Schwartz also dishes about how he and Holzman made their adaptation work. |
