Yes, there's a certain amount of annoying and occasionally nasty homophobia in the book, not just about chorus boys supposedly hitting on Roger Rathburn.
I was very disappointed when Encores! chose to do the 1971 revisal rather than the original (more or less) orchestrations, which are very light. The 1971 orchestrations are much more like 1940s Hollywood orchestrations, not 1920s Broadway orchestrations, although they are well-done. |
