A Special Night at Cabaret

Last night I got around to seeing the revival of Cabaret. At the end of the performance, Bebe Newwirth came out and told us that Cabaret had its first performance on Broadway exactly 58 years ago .. She asked us if we could imagine what it was like to hear that score for the first time. She then brought up to the stage none other than John Kander . Kander who is 97 was somewhat frail but very present and sharp He spoke about the continued relevance (unfortunately) of Cabaret and reminded us that elections have consequences. He went on to praise the current cast .(Asked Adam Lambert what planet he was from) and then poignantly thanked his collaborators (especially Fred Ebb). All of whom are now gone. Bebe than presented John with an Olivier Award for Lifetime Achievement which he humbly accepted to a truly earned and inspired standing ovation. All in all a great night to see this legendary show.
