What a terrific piece. I wonder if Wayman had remained a character in the play, if he'd have had to have signed off on something to allow it or if he might have had to have been paid something to allow this. It's a little weird that he found out from a friend who's seen an early preview, rather than Hwang reaching out about this.

Also, does Equity ALWAYS back down when it comes to going to battle with producers over non-American actors? They'd also backed down over Sarah Brightman in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Has there EVER been a case where the producer wanted to bring over a non-American actor for a role and didn't get their way?

Surprised Wayman didn't mention the FACE VALUE incarnation of the piece that closed in previews on Broadway. It's a fascinating story and I'm glad that Hwang kept at it until he got the play where he needed it to be.
