Actually, while all of those four had respectable runs, all except Redhead lost money on Broadway.
The real hits, the one-time money-spinners that nobody remembers now would be items like Follow the Girls, Song of Norway, Can-Can, High Button Shoes, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Wish You Were Here,--and the ones I've forgotten myself! ; )
Note: Moviegoers may remember the film versions of Can-Can and Gentlemen . . ., but neither of those was anything at all like the stage musical, so what those moviegoers are remembering isn't the stage musical. |
