I love your enthusiasm, but I'm not sure how one takes Hair out of the Vietnam War and the draft. I think trying to re-set it would be a mistake. Much as i agree that many of the songs would, and of course do, speak to our zeitgeist today.

BTW - I would also challenge you that "Let The Sun Shine In," in all its wonderful musical glory, is "ecstatically joyful." When you put it together with "The Flesh Failures" and "Eyes, Look Your Last" etc, the song really becomes a huge cry of pain - a demand for the lost sunshine to be let in. At least that's how I've always heard it, and through tears at that. I'm not saying that wouldn't work in a 2024 context - it would. I'm just not sure of your description of the song above. To me, in the show context, it's a desperate plea, not joyful at all. (And of course with the plot twist in the film it becomes even more so.)

I wouldn't mind seeing a new production of Hair - but let's not rewrite it. Let's let the parallels be there to see and feel. It doesn't need to be replanted to 2024 to make its point.
