Someone who is "getting off on being offended", usually calling attention to themselves in the process (on other sites, perhaps to get "likes"). Listen, I know there's plenty of stuff to be offended about and to bitch about, and you and others (and I) will have even more justifiable things to complain about now post-election (that is, if freedom of the press and the internet isn't significantly affected), but getting riled up to complain about keeping people safe, which is actually a service, seems to be leaving out vital circumstance as to why this security exists. Yes, it used to be nice and convenient going to shows, being able to even sometimes discreetly second act, to walk around Times Square without feeling like you're being herded into different walking lanes, avoid cartoon and super-hero characters who sometimes even break their illusion by having their faces and heads exposed, etc. But post 9/11, a crazy shoe-bomber attempt, and the invention of the internet and social media, where attempts at congregating mobs to rob, protest or otherwise cause mayhem have given rise to circumstances that really have called for more security to be required in such a public, famous and heavily trafficked area like Times Square. It's unfortunate that it takes additional time and that it's annoying, but there have been dangerous attempts in the area, and some inconvenience has become necessary to safeguard all of us. | |
