I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a theatre manager who would agree with this. It’s not just about the fear of a terrorist event—I work off Broadway, and we find all sorts of dangerous items most every day. Mostly it’s knives, but also guns (off-duty police will sometimes bring their firearm and refuse to check it at the closest precinct). At a Broadway house, this only increases.

If you don’t see any of this, it’s because security is doing their job. Most of the guards I’ve worked with have been perfectly pleasant, but they are often met with rudeness and resentment by patrons who would rather not be bothered.

It may be a bit of a pain to wait, or to arrive early enough to have time to use the restroom before the show, but it’s an inconvenience I’m happy to deal with.
