| The biggest example of this I experienced was with the original production of A Chorus Line. I first saw it as a young teenager in 1979 & though it was already 4 years into its run, it was explosive and hilarious and devastating. I saw the show at least four times, the last time I saw the production, it was in 1989 & the house was nowhere near full, but it appeared most of those in the audience were tourists from Asia who did not get the jokes. At all. I was so sad and got nostalgic, perhaps for the first time as a young 20-something, for the experience I had with the show back in my youth. Guess I went back one time too many. |
